Here is a recipe for a classic chicken sandwich:
Ingredients:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- salt and pepper, to taste
- vegetable oil, for frying
- 4 hamburger buns
- lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and basil.
- Place the chicken breasts in the bowl with the marinade and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours.
- In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with paper towels.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) on a deep-fry thermometer.
- Working in batches, remove the chicken breasts from the marinade and coat them in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Carefully place the coated chicken breasts in the hot oil and cook until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes per side.
- Transfer the cooked chicken to the prepared baking sheet and keep warm in the oven while you cook the remaining chicken breasts.
- Toast the hamburger buns, if desired. Assemble the sandwiches by placing a fried chicken breast on each bun and topping with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
- Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy!
You can also add other toppings to your chicken sandwich, such as pickles, mustard, or cheese.
