Here is a recipe for a classic doner kebab bread:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve the yeast and let the mixture stand for 10-15 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour mixture and stir to combine. Knead the dough by hand for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin rope.
- Preheat your grill to medium heat.
- Grill the dough ropes for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are lightly toasted and grill marks appear.
- Assemble the doner kebabs by placing the grilled bread on a plate and topping it with thinly sliced doner meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, and your choice of sauce or condiments.
- Serve the doner kebabs immediately
